Welcome to Blackbird Counselling and Wellness!

All new client, please book an “Inital phone consultation” with the counsellor of your choice.

Hello and welcome.

My name is Sam Dubetz, and I am a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s of Social Work degree from University of British Columbia. I have over 20 years of experience in social service related work, primarily working with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and people involved in the criminal legal system and the mental health system. I have worked with people impacted by addictions, violence, psychiatric diagnoses, as well as people who believed their concerns were not grand enough to justify reaching out for support. The common ground among all of these people were aspirations to accomplish, overcome, and reclaim. Whether the issues drawing you to counselling feel small or insurmountable, I am a firm believer that absolutely everyone is deserving of support.

I draw heavily upon Narrative Therapy which can help us make a deeper connection to our values, confidence, and resilience. My work is guided by a social justice minded and anti-oppressive framework, and I try to create a space that supports people in being the authors and experts in the stories of their own lives. My approach aims to assist people in recognizing and accessing their own internal motivations and strengths as the basis for accomplishing their goals.

Please feel free to reach out for a free 20 minute consult.

Welcome, and thank you for taking this brave step toward healing.

I’m Colleen, a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a background in education and a deep commitment to supporting children, youth, and adults through life’s challenges. My journey has included working in school settings, supporting students with complex needs—including profound intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and traumatic brain injuries—and providing outreach in the Downtown Eastside to individuals navigating mental health and addiction adversity. This work has shaped my belief in compassionate, trauma-informed care that meets people where they are.

My practice is rooted in helping you rebuild confidence, reclaim agency, and move toward self-actualization in ways that align with your values. It can be difficult to see a clear path from where you are to where you want to be—especially when you’ve been shaped by coercion, abuse, or burnout. I provide a safe, open, and non-judgmental space to help you process painful emotions, name what matters most, and take small, meaningful steps forward. Whether we’re working on boundaries, healing from trauma, or navigating the emotional aftermath of intimate partner violence, I believe real change grows from honest, grounded moments—not from dramatic shifts, but from steady, compassionate steps.

For me, this work is deeply aligned with bell hooks’ belief that healing is never a solitary act. Pain, when held in silence, isolates. But when witnessed, it becomes a bridge to connection, resistance, and transformation. In her writing, she says “She wanted me to bear witness, to hear again both the naming of her pain and the power that emerged when she felt the hurt go away.” I’ll sit with your pain, and walk beside you as you find your way back to yourself.

I offer sessions in person and virtually, with evening and weekend availability to fit your life, and I’d be honoured to walk alongside you. Book your free 20-minute consultation today by calling or texting 604-706-5052.

Direct billing available for most extended health plans, Métis Nation BC, WorkSafeBC, WorkBC, BCEHS, BC Fire Fighters, MCFD Autism Funding Unit, and Variety of Hearts Foundation.

I’m Sarah, a Registered Clinical Counsellor who works collaboratively with youth and adults of all identities. I believe no one should navigate their mental health journey alone and understand what it feels like when it seems that no one gets it. My goal is to walk beside you with compassion, authenticity, and a little humour when it helps.

My practice is person-centred at its core, meaning I respect your unique pace, wisdom, and capacity for healing. My approach is trauma-informed and strength-based. I love helping clients (re)discover their authentic selves, especially those navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, body image struggles, substance misuse, and/or neurodiversity. In our work, we might draw on Internal Family Systems (think Inside Out), somatic techniques to tune into your body’s wisdom, and other approaches from my toolbox that fit where you’re at. I practice from an anti-oppressive, multicultural, feminist lens—to me, allyship is a verb, and I’m committed to ongoing work with Queer and BIPOC communities. I’ve completed various training, including the San’yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training.

I believe in the power of expression, connection, and the natural world. There’s no topic off-limits here, and it’s a privilege to work on whatever matters most to you.

Hi, I am Karina Crow. I am a Registered Social Worker and have over two decades of front-line and clinical practice. I work from an integrated approach, using different types of counselling modalities to personalize your sessions. I support diversity and welcome people who identify as counter-culturalists, nonconformists, creatives, musicians, and people exploring their meaning in the world. I am an ally with marginalized people and the LGTBQIA2S+ community. I have worked as a front-line worker for many years with multiple non-profits in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver, in Forensic Social Work, Public Health and I currently work in private practice.

I specialize in working with trauma (PTSD, CPTSD OSI), complex family relationships, intergenerational trauma, substance use concerns, and general mental health, such as anxiety, depression and mood disorders. I work from a place to understand you as a whole person, your physical and mental health are connected and I honor this in our counselling sessions. It is of the most importance to me that you feel heard and understood, I will never judge your experience, and will provide a safe environment to talk about anything you choose.

I am a certified Master Accelerated Resolution Therapist (ART), which is a specialized treatment developed for trauma, but can be used for many other areas of concern. It is one of my favorite modalities to use, as it is effective and powerful. I often can take one to three sessions of ART to reprogram stressful emotions, memories and images and move to a place where these experiences no longer trigger strong physical or emotional reactions.
